I'm a big fan of Springfield Armory. High quality & awesome customer service. I currently shoot an EMP & am picking up a Champion in a couple of weeks.

Sig makes some really nice 1911's.

S&W has a nice selection as well.

Springfield's are very good.

I am a huge fan of Kimber. I own two. Stainless target and CDP II. I even have a Colt Govt. 1911. It has about 900 dollars work on it and it still does not shoot as well as my kimbers.

I would not advise the Taurus 1911 just because the finish (at least on the ones I have seen) are horrible. They are cheap though.

In my opinion you may end up needing to spend a couple hundred more than 1100 but it will be well worth it to get a top quality name brand 1911 that will last you a life time.
